ABSTRACT

The equipments such as Heavy Medium Separators, Jigs and other gravity concentration devices allow a rather much amount of valuable product to be lost in tailings if the specific gravity of separation chosen is such that the coal to be treated consist large proportion of near gravity material. In all these conventional systems the separation is affected in gravitational field. For materials having small particle size are showing only a slight specific gravity difference, the separating forces in the gravitational fields are too weak to bring about an efficient and sharp separation. Heavy Medium Cyclones provide high centrifugal force and a low viscosity in the medium, enabling much finer separations to be achieved than in gravitational separators.
