ABSTRACT

Although there is no universally standardized methodology for satiety testing, most studies use either subjective visual analog scale (VAS) scores, direct measurements of food intake (FI), or a combination of both. Studies typically present one of several test meals of varying nutrient content to each subject on several occasions (Porrini et al., 1995). Satiety is measured at speci…c times a¦er consumption of test meals. ´e VAS provides subjective ratings of hunger, satiety, prospective food consumption, and palatability of meals. VAS is typically 100 or 150 mm long and anchored at either end with “the least” and “the most.” Subjects are asked such questions as “how hungry do you feel, how satis…ed do you feel, how full do you feel, or how much do you think you can eat?” (Willis et al., 2009).
