ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the new concept of location-based GeoComputation (LBGC). We position this concept alongside mobile GIS and location-based services and argue that LBGC moves the focus away from the capture of new spatial data or the delivery of information of relevance to a person’s surroundings. Emphasis is instead placed on undertaking analysis and modelling in the field and the exciting possibilities this might bring for real-time model development, refinement, validation and visualisation.
