ABSTRACT
Geotechnics is the engineering theory of soils, foundations and retaining walls. The chapter is intended as a guide that can be used alongside information obtained from local building control officers; for feasibility purposes and for the assessment of site investigation results, scheme design should be carried out on the basis of a full site investigation designed specifically for the site and structure under consideration.
