ABSTRACT

In previous chapters the primary emphasis has been placed upon how electronic factors influence the acidities of the compounds examined. For the most part, the pKas were studied and compared in aqueous solutions at 25°C, although in Chapter 8 attention was also directed at acid-base behavior in other solvents. In this chapter we examine some additional factors that influence acidity and basicity, both in their independent roles and in their influences on the electronic factors responsible for ionization.
