ABSTRACT
Each year, billions of dollars are spent around the world to develop, manufacture, operate, and maintain transportation systems, such as trains, motor vehicles, aircraft, and ships. During the day-to-day use of such systems, thousands of lives are lost worldwide each year due to accidents resulting from various types of problems, including human errors.
