ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the electrical models for the dominant dynamics of wind turbines (WTs) connected to the electrical power system, as a Žrst step to understand its electrical dynamical behavior and to design the required controllers. Section 13.2 derives the dynamic models for squirrel cage induction generators (SCIG), doubly fed induction generators (DFIG), and direct-drive synchronous generators (DD). Section 13.3 summarizes the most common power electronic converters. Section 13.4 describes typical WT power quality characteristics, and Section 13.5 introduces some speciŽcs for wind energy integration into the grid.
