ABSTRACT

Unlike methyl bromide, dazomet is applied in granular form. Dazomet is effective in reducing annual bluegrass seed survival, especially when treated areas are covered with plastic tarps (Landschoot and Park, 2004). Dazomettreated sites do not require a plastic cover; however, annual bluegrass seed survival is enhanced if treated areas are not covered. The site to be treated should be cored as previously described. If large fairway areas are being fumigated it is best to not apply glyphosate because errors, skips, washes, or other surviving areas will not be evident after dazomet is watered-in. Dazomet requires watering-in for several days, and it is important to ensure that granules do not run-off to adjacent, desirable turf. It is especially important to take all measures necessary to avoid movement of granules into ponds or streams. In general, dazomet-treated sites can be seeded with creeping bentgrass between 3 and 6 days after application.
