The data suffer from multiple defects. The purity of many of the amino acids used in older work1 is subject to question. Calculations from solubility data are handicapped by poor knowledge of activity coefficients, particularly for sparingly soluble amino acids. Some amino acids form hydrates, and it is not always clear that the solubility data are for the crystalline anhydrous form or that equilibrium has been reached as regards either crystalline form or solubility.
