Perl and CGI for Web-Based Applications

From the applications’ view, CGI receives the input from the Internet and sends off the documents to the Internet. CGI regulates the environment in which some computer programs can execute to process and construct those dynamic documents. These computer programs installed on the server are written in special computer languages which can be handled by CGI. They are called CGI programs or CGI scripts (small pieces of programs).
