ABSTRACT

After a short introduction to the main functions of the session controllers and their respective responsibilities, this chapter gives an overview of session processes, including session initiation, session routing, managing application triggering, session termination, and mid-session processing including event-driven sessions, third-party call control, and session handover with voice continuity. It also describes how media is managed and how media resources are engaged by both session controllers and applications. This chapter also includes the session control aspects of special sessions such as Emergency calls, Immediate Messaging, Number Portability, and Presence.
