ABSTRACT

Seeing women alone during antenatal care may encourage disclosure of domestic violence or other social problems. Approximately 0.5-1 per cent of women use illicit drugs during pregnancy, and this should trigger increased fetal monitoring and social support. A history of sub-fertility requiring assisted conception techniques is relevant to care later in the pregnancy. The rate of preterm delivery is higher in assisted conceptions and pre-eclampsia is more common with donated gametes. Women who have previously experienced ectopic pregnancy should have an early scan to confirm an intrauterine pregnancy. See Chapter 1, Obstetrics by Ten Teachers, 19th edition.
