ABSTRACT

Hypothesis evaluated with test Does a sample of n subjects (or objects) come fiom a population in which the mean (p) equals a specified value?

Relevant background information on test The single-sample z test is employed in a hypothesis testing situation involving a single sample in order to determine whether or not a sample with a mean of 2 is derived fiom a population with a mean of p. If the result of the single-sample z test yields a significant difference, the researcher can conclude there is a high likelihood the sample is derived fiom a population with a mean value other than p. The test statistic for the single-sample z test is based on the normal distribution. A general discussion of the normal distribution can be found in the Introduction.
