ABSTRACT
Preop Patients should be given a preoperative systemic antibiotic for wound infection
prophylaxis 30 minutes before operation. In cases where there is likely to be colon in the hernia sac or adhesions to the colon, a mechanical and pharmacologic bowel prep is indicated. Patients should be treated with sequential compression devices or subcutaneous heparin according to their preoperative risk factors for thromboem bolism. Most procedures should be done under general anesthesia.
