ABSTRACT

Indications Subtotal gastrectomy is indicated for the treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma in

the absence of distant metastases. In a subtotal gastrectomy for cancer, it is typical to remove about 85% of the stomach, leaving only a small fundic remnant attached proximally to the esophagus. Subtotal or partial gastrectomy may be indicated for other less common gastric neoplasms, such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST).
