ABSTRACT
Indications Parathyroidectomy is the only curative therapy for primary hyperparathyroidism
(PHPT). There is no debate in the surgical or medical community that parathyroidec tomy is indicated for patients with symptomatic PHPT. Many specialists also believe that parathyroidectomy is indicated for patients who clearly have a biochemical diagnosis of PHPT, but are asymptomatic. The success of parathyroidectomy for PHPT, with or without preoperative localization, is higher than 95% in the hands of experienced surgeons.
