ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is to describe some different measures that can be used to assess model fit for a simple linear regression analysis. We will introduce measures to assess how much variability in the response variable is due to the given model by using the coefficient of determination, and the coefficient of correlation will also be discussed as a way to measure the linear association between two variables. Finally, exploratory graphs and formal tests will be introduced that can be used to verify the regression model assumptions that were presented in the last chapter, as well as how to assess the impact of outliers.
