ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will begin by describing descriptive statistics that provide us with numerical measures calculated from a sample. We will present some typical measures of center, such as the mean, median, and mode. We will also describe how to measure the spread or variability of a variable by calculating the range, interquartile range, variance, and standard deviation. We will also explore how to use MINITAB to calculate measures of center and variability, and we will work through numerous examples.
