ABSTRACT

Brief descriptions of different absorption microCT methods begin the chapter. X-ray source characteristics, x-ray detectors, and sample positioning and rotation subsystems are covered in order to provide background for understanding complete microCT systems. X-ray tube-based microCT systems, synchrotron microCT systems, and both full-field and lens-based nanoCT imaging are reviewed separately. MicroCT with x-ray phase contrast instead of absorption, microCT using x-ray fluorescence, and microCT using x-ray scattering are the subjects of separate sections. The final section discusses how to determine which commercial system or synchrotron microCT facility is bested suited for the intended applications.
