ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with the influence of leadership on safety performance. Supervisors’ andmanagers’ leadership style can significantly affect subordinates’ attitudes and behavior, and is also important in determining safety climate. The chapter begins by reviewing the concept of leadership and leadership theories; it then discusses the impact of leadership on safety performance, failures of leadership, and managing leadership roles to reduce risk and improve organizational safety.
