ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the data that consists of five variables recorded on a random sample of 100 married men and their wives. The five variables are husbage: husband’s age in years, husbht: husband’s height in mm, wifeage: wife’s age in years, wifeht: wife’s height in mm, and husbagem: husband’s age at the time of the marriage. The analysis of most data sets begins with the calculation of suitable numerical summary statistics such as variable means and standard deviations, and relatively simple graphics such as histograms and boxplots describing variable distributions. Plot shows considerable deviation from a straight line in the plotted points. This gives relatively clear evidence that the data do not have a multivariate normal distribution, which may have implications for particular types of analysis that may be considered for the data.
