ABSTRACT
The focus of this chapter is on the first layer of the TCP/IP protocol suite. While the Internet Protocol (IP) is the primary protocol most people associate with the network layer, there are two related protocols that must be considered when discussing the TCP/IP protocol suite. Those protocols are the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP).
