Consequently a reaction. . . cannot and will never be able to indicate the arrangement of the atoms in a combination. . . For a reaction, by establishing a molecular movement, destroys the preceding arrangements of the atoms. Therefore, being able to extract a compound substance from a combination does not mean that this compound already existed in this combination.
