ABSTRACT

With the GLKit, Apple has introduced for the first time an Objective-C-based framework that is supposed to unify and simplify working with OpenGL ES. Not least, in relation to OpenGL ES 2.0, it lowers the learning curve for beginners, since the change from ES 1.1 to ES 2.0 can be carried out without much adaptation. Since the GLKit has been available only since iOS 5 and since the update can be installed only on the newer devices-that is, from iPhone 3GS/iPod Touch 2 and iPad-it is impossible that an ES 1.1 device not be able optionally also to support ES 2.0.
