ABSTRACT

In the field of computer graphics, objects and lights are virtuallymodeled and then rendered to create an illusion of reality, a workof art, or simply a nice picture. Once seen only in research, such imagery is now ubiquitous, especially in the entertainment industry. Color in computer graphics may precisely simulate the physics of lights and surfaces, but is more often the result of a sophisticated manipulation of RGB values. This chapter describes color in the field of 3D graphics rendering; it discusses both the synthesis of color in rendering and the reproduction of color in graphic systems.
