ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the design and layout of frozen semen bull stations. Good bulls maintained well and physically fit to produce semen, are vital for genetic progress. The bull calves that are primarily selected as breeding bulls are separated from adult females by the time they attain sexual maturity. Bulls should be fed a nutritionally balanced ration using locally available good quality feed and fodder. Bulls must remain in good health and physical condition to achieve optimum growth and maximum production of quality semen. Culling decisions must be taken only after a comprehensive review of the bull's spermatozoal morphology and semen production ability with the help of proper records. Deep frozen semen doses are increasingly used for artificial insemination in the developing countries. The number of bulls maintained in a Deep Frozen Semen Production Station is related to the requirement of frozen semen. The slurry tank to collect and store the dung and urine preferably underground and covered is ideal.
