It has become increasingly recognized that to accurately predict and model fate/transport, toxicity, speciation (form of), bioavailability, and risk assessment of plant nutrients, toxic metals, oxyanions, radionuclides, and organic chemicals in the Earth’s critical zone, we must have fundamental information at multiple spatial and temporal scales, and our research e¦orts must be multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary (Figure 1.1).
