We suppose that the transverse device takes the form of a rectangular block as shown in Figure 1.3. We shall assume that the length in the direction of the electric £ow is much greater than that in the direction of heat £ow. šis allows us to neglect the disturbances in the equipotentials and isothermal surfaces at the ends.
