ABSTRACT

A pressure vessel is a storage tank or vessel that has been designed to operate at pressures above15 psig. In most incidents or accidents, potential health and safety hazards exist from a pressure vessel that has failed or is operating improperly. If a pressure vessel leaks, it could poison or suffocate those in close proximity to it. It is not uncommon for fires or explosion to occur during operation. If a vessel ruptures, the event can be even more catastrophic, resulting in considerable damage to life and property. In 1999 two events involving pressure vessels took place: one powered boiler resulted in 6 dead and 14 injured while the second pressure vessel resulted in 2 killed and 50 injured.
