ABSTRACT

Evaporation rates can be modied by morphological and structural characteristics of plant species. These effects alter the water amount traveling toward mineral soil (Klaassen et al. 1998). Miralles et al. (2011) remark that the main limiting factors of evaporation from terrestrial surface are energy availability and precipitation volume. Rainfall interception plays an important role in partitioning the rain into water available for plants and water to be evaporated directly from plant surfaces. This process has been widely evaluated under tropical conditions (Tobon-Marin et al. 2000; Arcova et al. 2003; Ferreira et al. 2005; Balieiro et al. 2007; Cuartas et al. 2007; Calvo-Alvarado et al. 2009b, 2012a; Moura et al. 2009; Siles et al. 2010). These studies show the broad quantity of parameters inuencing rainfall interception: forest structure, oristic composition, and local and regional climatic characteristics.
