ABSTRACT
As in the development of other areas of science and technology, mathematics has also played a pivotal role in the development of computer system reliability and its associated areas. The history of mathematics may be traced back to the development of our current number symbols, sometimes referred to as the “Hindu-Arabic numeral system” in the published literature [1]. The very first evidence of the use of these symbols is found on stone columns erected by the Scythian emperor Asoka of India in around 250 BCE [1].
