ABSTRACT

Sustainability is on the lips of almost every fashion designers these days. Whenever a new design/ product/service is launched, many people raise the questions, “Is this design/product/service sustainable?” “Is it eco-friendly?” “Are low impact materials, energy and water efcient processes used?” “What about the ease of recyclability?” etc. All these questions indicate the consumer’s increased awareness and the concern over the sustainability practices. Textiles/apparels are no exception to these. In the context of surge in fast fashion and increased amounts of textiles/apparels, wastes have forced the designers and manufacturers focus their efforts toward sustainable design throughout the processes and the supply chain as the whole. The aim of this chapter is to provide the awareness on sustainable design principles through which sustainability can become a routine rather than a luxury.
