ABSTRACT

Large numbers of novel structures are synthesized in research laboratories across the world for a diverse range of synthetic projects. These are a potential source of lead compounds, and pharmaceutical companies will often enter into agreements with research teams in order to test their compounds. Compounds were synthesized one at a time by conventional synthetic methods, and the odds of finding a lead compound were increased by synthesizing as many compounds as possible. Novel lead compounds are always in demand, whether they are for a drug target that has just been discovered, or for an established target that had several drugs developed to interact with it. Pharmacophore searching can also be used to search existing compounds for lead compounds against novel targets. Computer modeling can then be used to create a pharmacophore that would interact with those regions.
