ABSTRACT

Multiple indications exist, which may necessitate a revision fusion following minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS TLIF). Radiographic imaging is necessary to identify the occurrence of pseudarthrosis following MIS TLIF and the necessity for a revision procedure. A revision MIS TLIF is performed to revise any technical errors, insert additional or more efficacious graft material, and improve the biomechanical environment created by the initial fusion procedure. The preoperative planning phase for a revision MIS TLIF is crucial to identifying the feasibility and any potential contraindications for the procedure. The patient undergoing revision MIS TLIF is positioned in a fashion similar to that of a primary MIS TLIF. The guide wires of the inserted pedicle screws can then be removed, and a rod is placed submuscularly into the pedicle screws’ tulips. The incision is frequently made to be equivalent to the diameter of the final tubular retractor.
