ABSTRACT

In the 1980s dental magazines were full of articles by dentists who had set up what is known as a ‘cold squat’, i.e. they set up a new practice from scratch. Often these articles gave the reader the impression that starting your own practice in this way was very easy and that no matter what you did it was always going to be a roaring success. No doubt some of them were successful, but would it be wise to try to do it today?
