ABSTRACT
All soils develop in parent materials that are derived from rocks. There are three kinds of rocks:
Igneous rocks are those formed from molten magma and may be of two types: volcanic or extrusive rocks (e.g., basalt) if lava cools quickly above ground after eruption, or plutonic or intrusive rocks (e.g., granite, diorite) if the cooling is underground and slow.
