- Free-Response ROC Analysis

A variety of applications often trigger a need for detection and localization of multiple targets within a single subject. Such diagnostic tasks include, for example, detection and localization of chest nodules (Bunch, 1978; Chakraborty, 1989), detection and localization of military targets (Irvine, 2004), and detection of sound signals in temporal intervals (Egan, 1961). Here we adopt medical imaging terminology; target or abnormality and subject or image are used interchangeably.
