ABSTRACT

It is important to clearly have in mind the purpose of an evaluation. What is it one is attempting to evaluate? For example, if a specific therapy is claimed to alleviate an “allergy,” it is important to define precisely what is meant by “al lergy.” Does the therapy treat allergic symptomology, the immune response ef fects of B-cell immunocytes secreting immunoglobin “E,” or both? Which quad rants are affected? Additionally, what does alleviate mean? Does it mean “in terms of clinical reduction of IgE in the blood stream” and, therefore, focus on histamine reduction? Does it mean subjective relief from allergies by a patient? Perhaps both. Whatever it is, it is critical that one articulate this precisely.
