ABSTRACT
Consider the propagation of a plane wave. Each point in the wave front can be considered as a source of secondary waves (Figure 2.1). ™is describes the propagating wave correctly, but suggests the possibility that the wave can equally well propagate backward. ™is is one reason the model has to be modi›ed to agree with exact theories.
