ABSTRACT
Throughout history, people have tried very hard to remove confidential, private, offensive, or otherwise objectionable text from documents. With chisel, stylus, pen, whiteout, magic marker, or mouse in hand, legions of censors have been reading our most intimate letters and stories, eager to blot out expletives, formulas, locations, names, and times, in the hope that their efforts will render text safe to share.
