ABSTRACT

Most tumors have a simple, smooth age distribution, with a single peak (Figure 26.1). Not all cancers have a single age-of-occurrence peak. Some have two or more peaks of occurrence.

Well-known examples of recognized bimodal cancers are Hodgkin lymphoma (which has two peaks in occurrence: in young adults and in middle-aged adults), and Kaposi’s sarcoma (which has two peaks in occurrence: in young people, with AIDS, and in older men, unassociated with AIDS).
