ABSTRACT

Planning strategy depends upon a number of issues such as the spread of rural areas across

the country, the resource base of a rural settlement, the population and growth rate of

population, the distance between a settlement and nearby agricultural, industrial, and

administrative growth centers, and the current accessibility levels to these growth centers.

Thus public transport planning in rural areas is a complex phenomenon. It is quite difficult

to consider each and every settlement in planning public transport. In India a district

is normally considered as a unit for the purpose of planning and developing transport

infrastructure. The same criteria could be followed even while planning a public transport

network in rural areas.
