ABSTRACT
The same discovery was made independently by the I. G. Farben AG in Germany, also in 1942. In fact, their discovery predates Du Pont's by two months [3]. However, World War ll and its aftermath meant that Bayer was only able to start production of polyacrylonitrile ftber at its plant in Dormagen, Germany, in 1954 [2].
