ABSTRACT
Pyrolysis and Gasification are thermal processes developed as alternatives to combustion process for treating municipal wastes to recover energy from its organic fraction. These are advanced thermal technologies involving more complex processes, and offer better prospect in utilizing the waste than landfilling and combustion. However, their commercial experience so far is not adequate (Chen et al. 2014, Bosmans et al. 2012, Di Gregorio et al. 2012, RTI International 2012, Castaldi 2008, Castaldi and Themelis 2010, E4Tech 2009, Arena 2012, Ricketts et al. 2002, Morris and Waldheim 1998, Manya et al. 2006, Kim 2003, Zhao et al. 2010, Yassin et al. 2009, Arena et al. 2010 & 2011, Xiao et al. 2009, Thomas 2004, ESTET 2004, Belgiorno et al. 2003, Surisetty et al. 2012, Faaij et al. 1997, Niessen et al. 1996, Morris and Waldheim 1998, Solantausta et al. 1999).
