ABSTRACT
Figure 17.1 shows the schematic view of the compression-permeability cell employed to investigate the deliquoring mechanism of the compressed cake during an expression operation. In the experiments, the solid-liquid mixture is introduced into a cylinder, and a constant mechanical load is applied through the piston. The liquid squeezed from the mixture is allowed to drain from both the top and bottom media. The variation with time u of the thickness L of the mixture or compressed cake is measured by the dial gauge.
