ABSTRACT
Push notifications are a tool that enables apps to update users as new content arrives. Users have the ability to turn push notications on and o per app, or to control the type of notication (sound, on screen, or badges). Instant messages and simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) email are also examples of push systems. Stock market data, auctions, monitoring, sensor networking, and online gaming are all updated via push-enabled apps as well.
