ABSTRACT
Vertebral arteries (Fig. 4.2) They usually arise from the proximal subclavian arteries. They often differ in caliber. They lie lateral and posterior to the carotid arteries. Each passes to a canal in the cervical vertebrae, usually entering at C6 but higher in 5%. They enter the skull through the foramen magnum. They then join to form the basilar artery.
