ABSTRACT

The degree of success of a program of slug tests is primarily a function of a series of design decisions, some of which are made long before the actual tests are performed in the field. The emphasis of this chapter will be on the major elements involved in the design phase of a test program. The discussion will primarily focus on the three most critical areas of the design phase: (1) well construction, (2) well development, and (3) verification of conventional theory. The chapter will conclude with the definition of a series of practical guidelines for the design of a program of slug tests.
