Sets And Functions

In the previous chapter, we discussed the elements of logic which we may regard as providing a framework for constructing and understanding mathematical statements. Much of the language of mathematics, however, is described in terms of sets and functions, which we introduce in this chapter. If logic provides the `backbone' of mathematics, then sets and functions put esh on the bone.
