1. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Facial rejuvenation is a complex process which requires careful analysis and correction of
the various components of facial aging. Consumers are nowadays more sophisticated and
discerning when seeking cosmetic improvement of their appearance, so that procedures
need to be increasingly individualized. The cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist must be
able to comfortably offer a range of treatment options, and in many cases a combination
of laser and other surgical procedures. Many patients wish to undergo facial rejuvenation
in one operation, as it is more economical in time and cost, so combined procedures will
continue to have great appeal.
